On top of the lookout hill are large stones. It may be hard to believe, but the Meuse once brought them here on or in floating ice floes. When extracting gravel, they resurfaced above ground. The large dark stones with white bands of quartz are quartzites. The white stones are made entirely of quartz. There are also some sandstones, which feel like fine sandpaper, and some conglomerates, which look a bit like concrete. These stones are composed of many smaller quartzites or sandstones that are held together by a binder.
