Did you know that in the Colony of Carrot there was a pretty tight discipline! There was a daily check by the ward or section master and a monthly card was drawn up for each family. The score was indicated in terms of behaviour, hygiene and health. The settlers who were poorly dressed or whose house was not in order were not allowed to go to work.
In case of neglect, wages were withheld. In case of serious violations, they were transferred to the unfree colony in neighboring Merksplas.
Despite that rigid discipline, maintaining discipline was quite a problem. In 1828 the following was recorded: out of a population of 600 men:
