It was not only in the mining region that many migrant workers ended up. From the second half of the 19th century, industry flourished along the canal between Brussels and Charleroi and workers came from far and wide to earn their living. Scattered throughout the cemetery of Lot, these guest workers from the first hour and their descendants have found a final resting place. So did the Italian Ernesto Trentin. After the First World War he came to Belgium to work in the mines. He then helped to deepen the Brussels-Charleroi canal, so that larger ships could also use the canal. You will find wine grave among the veterans in the cemetery of Lot.
