The first data date back to 1219. In the 13th century people already spoke of the Mary Magdalene chapel from Vaalbeek. Around that period, the crusade also took place, in which Goswijn III, among others, participated. Die Goswijn wanted a mass to be held every Sunday in the chapel and so he paid Park Abbey 8.5 bunders in exchange for his Sunday mass. To this day, mass is still held on Sundays in the chapel.
