Fort 8 is a fort located in Hoboken and part of the Brialmont belt. The fort occupies almost the entire southern side of Hoboken. It is one of the most authentic and best preserved Brialmont forts because it was never reinforced or modernized with concrete. In 1859, construction work began on the fort over an area that had previously consisted of lands of castles, including Count Moretus' Scaldisburg. The works were completed in 1864. During the works, a mammoth skeleton was found that is now known as "mammoth of Hoboken". The fort has remarkably high ramparts, just like fort 7 and a traditional battery to shoot at the city, just like fort 5 in Edegem. The fort is 32 hectares in size. At the outbreak of World War I, however, the fort proved quite useless; The technology was already obsolete.
