An information board warns that you are entering an integral forest reserve. This is a part of the forest where nature can evolve spontaneously. No more trees are cut down or cleared, except along the footpaths when they would pose a danger to the walker. In time, a lot of dead trees and dead wood will be added. You walk on a forest road with a high verge of valley herb on the right and a beautiful fern: double foliage. On the left in depth there is a very wet area. It is the source area of the Kapittelbeek. In the spring you can see the green-yellow colors of the gold auction here. The springs and streams of the Hallerbos still have pure water, but once outside the forest their quality deteriorates rapidly. The fact that streams and springs occur here is due to the geological underpinnings of the region: the subsoil contains Ypresian clay, a sticky clay that forms an impermeable layer for the water.
