The Congoberg refers to the many houilleurs and miners, who returned to their families unwashed from the coal mine and still black as oelje (from the French houille = coal). Vollezele had many miners who went by train (line 123) to the Walloon mines. Most of the coal harvesters lived in the poor hamlet of Achterdenbos.
