We drive along the Scheldt towards the old district of Pamele. There are beautiful religious buildings that bear witness to a rich past. The splendid Gothic church Onze-Lieve-Vrouw in Pamele dates from the 13th century, while the Cistercian abbey 'Maagdendale' developed from the 13th century onwards to become one of the leading women's abbeys in Flanders.
