The boat lifts are gigantic structures of 1350 tons on a canal that connects La Louvière with Mons. The "Artwork" of the Centre Canal makes it possible to cross the watershed between the basins of the Scheldt and the Meuse. Because the lifts work vertically, it is possible to bridge a height difference of more than 73 meters. This largest boat lift in the world can be visited and consists of two water troughs with a size of 112 by 12 meters and a total weight of about 16,000 tons, 144 suspension cables and a lift roof with the dimensions of a football field. The total passage time is about 40 minutes and can be admired in full.
