'At your own risk' the sign states close to the homestead. The scenery is too beautiful to worry about. The first thing you get to see of the castle complex is the beautiful pond with the woods behind it. The castle of Herlaar dates from the 13th century and is completely walled. The entrance is located beyond a real drawbridge flanked by two round watchtowers. On the left of the Wimp is the former Herlaarmolen from the 15th century. It is of the underlay type, which means that the water sets the underside of the wheel in motion.
