Essene-Lombeek is a railway station on line 50 in the municipality of Ternat. The name refers to the borough of Sint-Katherina-Lombeek and to the borough of Essene of the neighbouring municipality of Affligem. Essene-Lombeek is a stop on lines S4 and S10 of the Regional Express Network around Brussels.
The stop was opened under the name "Esschene-Lombeek" on 15 August 1869 and was managed by ternat station. The old station building was built in 1895. In 1950 the spelling of the name was changed to "Essene-Lombeek". The ticket offices closed in 1993 and the station building has been vacant ever since. In 2008, as part of the RER project, the platforms were raised and extended, and the northern platform moved to the east side of the level crossing. Because the old station building was located in a green zone and redevelopment proved virtually impossible, Infrabel applied for a demolition permit at the beginning of 2007. In 2008, the Council of Aldermen of Ternat gave a positive recommendation for the demolition. The building was subsequently demolished at the end of 2009. In its place was a grass zone and more parking space.
