Description by the author

From the source to the falls. The Lech River Trail takes hikers through one of the last wild river landscapes in Europe, from its source close to Formarinsee lake, through the Lechtal Valley and the Reutte Nature Park Region all the way to the region of Allgäu in Germany. Even though 125 kilometres cannot be classed as a “stroll”, this long-distance hike is relatively easy to accomplish as it runs more or less constantly downhill past colonies of alpine ibex, through the unique botanical landscapes of the Lechtal Valley and over a spectacular 200-metre suspension bridge at Holzgau. This alpine walking route is split into 15 stages, the final one of which leads to the little town of Füssen. Depending on personal fitness and stamina levels, between 6 and 8 days are recommended. The European Ramblers' Association subjected the transnational Lech River Trail to stringent quality tests before certifying it as the very first Leading Quality Trail (LQT). The Lech River Trail therefore serves as a model for other long-distance hiking trails throughout Europe.
Lasting between six and eight days, this long-distance hike begins in Lech am Arlberg at 1,793 metres above sea level. It is well worth starting with a quick detour to the Formarinsee lake with its majestic views. The trail then leads from Steeg to Holzgau, past highlights including an impressive waterfall. From Stanzach onwards the Lech River Trail takes hikers along the gravel riverbanks characteristic of the Lech, one of Europe's last remaining untamed river landscapes.
